While searching for my own lost cockatiel, Angel, I recently took in a cockatiel someone else had found over a month ago. This bird turned out not to be my Angel, but I am keeping the bird until I find the owner. I am concerned that, because this bird’s feather patterns seem to be changing, the original owner may not have recognized this bird as theirs. When cockatiels are very young, it is hard to tell the males from females, but as they get to be a few months old and begin to molt, the males develop markings distinctive of male cockatiels. The found bird I have appears to be a young male whose feathers just recently started changing – he still has some juvenile markings. Some of his vocal behaviors may also be new. If your lost cockatiel was young, you may want to check on this one even if you think you may have already spoken with the person who originally found him and thought he was not your bird. He has at least one distinguishing physical characteristic other than his feathers, so you must call or email me and describe your lost bird to establish possible ownership. He was found around 6 PM on June 28 at 12 Mile and Ryan, and the person who found him was keeping him at her home in Warren until I picked him up a few days ago. I now have him at my home in Brighton. This is NOT the bird who was taken to the Purple Parrot rescue.
