I saw this bird walking along southbound 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway), between the 197 and Powder Mill Road exits. I pulled over and attempted to catch it. When I first approached it, it ran towards me, but then stopped a few feet away. I sat down and tried to get close enough to catch it, and he did get very close to me, but at the last second I tried to pick him up (he was just inches away from me, and I thought I had a good chance of it), he got nervous and flew off. Right into oncoming traffic. Which stopped (ack!). He paused for a few seconds trying to decide which way to go, and then flew off away from me into the median, flying a good distance before landing in a wooded section of the median. I didn’t see him after that, so there’s a good chance he might still be around. I didn’t want to risk spooking him any further, and the traffic on the parkway (rush hour) was just too heavy to keep trying.
