I live in Hyattsville, MD and over the last 2-3 weeks, I’ve been seeing what I think might be a Quaker or Monk parrot hanging out intermittently in my back yard. It’s about the size of a pigeon and has a green head and back, a beige breast and a bit of blue around its tail. This bird has been eating at our feeder which I fill with sunflower seed as well as using our bird bath. I’ve also now loaded another feeder with some parrot food, although this bird seems to be sticking with the sunflower seed so far. I don’t mind the bird hanging out and eating feed as it sees fit, but I’m a little worried about its prospects going forward particularly with Fall and Winter approaching. Also, the other day I saw a hawk in our yard, which is not completely uncommon given that I do have bird feeders but I’m worried that once the green foliage is gone, this bird will be a sitting duck.
