My African Grey escaped from his cage while on my back porch. The perch fell off the cage and I carefully opened the door to replace the perch, but the bird managed to squeeze between my hand and the door and flew away. He flew away on a Saturday the 24th and was on his own until the following Wednesday 27th. He survived on his own four days and endured several summer thunderstorms during that period. By Wednesday he had managed to fly two miles from my house. . where they took him in, bought him bird food and were keeping him in an empty bedroom with no cage since they did not have one. They kept the bedroom door closed because they have a lose cat in the house. After a week they decided the bird was too much work and needed to be with his owner. They started searching the internet and located my posting on 911 Parrot Alert. One can only imagine the risk of the environment that house posed for a bird, but the family that found him could not have been nicer and more loving. I was lucky. As soon as I brought him home I took him to the vet for a check-up and a wing clip. He had a minor injury on his chest, but nothing to be too concerned about. He got an injection of vitamins and oral antibiotics for five days. He’s now back to normal.Feel free to share my story and edit it as needed. Many many thanks.Frank Q.
