I found this pigeon on the side of a road yesterday and it couldn’t fly. I took it home, gave it food and water and put it on clean towels in a cage. I thought its wing was broken, but upon further examination I noticed a ‘hole’ in its chest. I really thought it wouldn’t make it, but it is still alive today and very alert. I washed the wound with Betadine. Is there something else I can do? I cannot bring it to a vet. It doesn’t look like a common pigeon. It looks like it might be someone’s homing pigeon. It’s not banded. It’s rather beautiful with amber eyes. Any advice would be appreciated.
