TIMBOON district residents have been warned to be on the lookout for stolen birds after a spate of burglaries in the town.A tomahawk was thrown through a car window, tools stolen as well as the birds during the crime spree.

A Port Campbell police spokesman said that last Thursday a Couch Street resident disturbed someone in her front yard wearing a grey hoodie.

“The woman spotted someone in her yard about 6.15pm. There’s been a number of burglaries in that area. Next door there were tools stolen out of a shed and up the road a tomahawk went through a car window,” he said.

“The woman said the man in the grey hoodie ran off west along Dawson Street and then met up with another person wearing a black hoodie.”

The policeman said the woman had a lot of pets.

“Three weeks before, between 3pm on April 17 and 10am the next day, she reported that someone walked up her driveway and has gone through a fence into the back carport area where there are a number of bird aviaries,” he said.

“Two male cockatiels valued at $60 and three Gouldian finches, one with a black head, one with an orange head and one with a red head, were stolen. The one with the orange head is apparently quite valuable and they were worth a total of $185.”
