The African grey parrot was discovered at the flats at Brackenridge View off Ferniehill Road in the Gilmerton area of Edinburgh on Sunday night.
The Scottish SPCA was called out and are now looking after the exotic pet at their Edinburgh rehoming centre.
The animal charity is hoping the parrot’s owner will recognise it because it is an unusual breed.
Kenny Sharpe from the charity said: “This parrot is pretty distinct as it’s a Timneh African Grey which is much darker than the Congo variety. It doesn’t have the bright red tail feathers you’d expect to see, so we’re hoping that its owner will recognise the description and come to collect their bird.
“The parrot is in good overall condition and seems to be quite friendly so we’re sure someone out there must be missing their pet.
“You’d be surprised how many stray parrots come into our care. They tend to escape when their owners are cleaning out their cages or letting them have a fly around a room. All it takes is for a door or window to be open and they’re off.
“Sometimes they get mobbed by crows and arrive injured and exhausted but this one seems to be in good health.”
