Boko (rhymes with Spanish word, “loco”) is a male, normal grey cockatiel about 7.5 years old. He has a very distinct call that almost flawlessly mimics the signature American Robin mating call that he does frequently, following with a very sharp “wolf whistle”. He also often whistles “pretty bird” – discernable if you listen carefully. He is normally very chatty and active, showing off his wings and chest in typical male ‘tiel behavior, and hates to be left alone in a room. He loves the sound of police/ambulance sirens and always reacts to them in a comical way.
Our family was in the middle of moving out of our upstairs apartment, which understandably caused him stress. We briefly stepped out of the room to move some boxes, and without realizing it was left open, he flew out of the patio window, apparently startled. By the time I heard him calling for me (as he always does when he flies somewhere in the home) and ran into the living room where he had been in his cage, he was already gone and I unfortunately did not see which direction he went. However, it seemed from what I heard that he was heading east of Fairview (could have also been south). Overall, this was very unusual behavior as he had never attempted to go outside in the nearly 7 years that he’s been with me. He was unclipped (a few times I had to clip him for safety reasons).
He is my “baby” and “little stinker”– he loves to rub his head on my leg and snuggle close to my face when I take a nap. He also loves it when I sing to him, and on occasion he does a very cute, ritualistic bowing dance to me. Our family is certainly not complete without him…I feel sick not knowing whether he is warm, has food and is safe…there are many trees in our neighborhood, which is home to many predatory birds and stray cats, and I worry. I want him back because he is special. I can’t simply buy another ‘tiel. I have very tender memories with him and have enjoyed watching him grow from the 7-month old, squeamish fledgling he was when I handpicked him and took him home with me from the pet shop. He really is my dear friend…please if you know anything at all, please call me. I am willing to pay many times more than the price I paid to buy him.
